Iron Man of Venus (2009)

I am just finishing up an hour long cd comprised of Winter 2003 recordings. This cd features drummer Rob Benson who played with AP for a few months. There are improvs, jams & modal workouts which we rehearsed with the hope of getting gigs & recording for Spring 2003. Unfortunately, there were problems with Doug's health & later Fran's tragic accident.

These recordings are mostly from my video camcorder, so there are some rough sounds here & there, mainly on the cymbals. I did a lot of editing to get the best of what went on. Lot's of nice flute & synths from Doug & interesting bass motifs from Chris Altenhof. Rob Benson was a very good drummer & was really getting into the AP groove. It was a tight unit at times, sounding good for the short time we had together. Recordings from winter 2003 with drummer Rob Benson. After our duo gigs & recording, Doug called me to come down to work with a new drummer. Doug, Chris & I worked with Rob for six sessions or so. We were back to long improv's over Chris's bass lines. The sessions were workouts to familiarize Rob with AP & to get a set going for Spring 2003 gigs & a new cd. Doug played a lot of flute, plus the Sequential Circuits Pro One & Korg MS-2000, no Arp's or sequencers. I have one well recorded session through the mixing board & two sessions that are on my camcorder, 2/7/03-3/30/03. The camcorder was set by my amp & used for audio only. Just something to listen to in the car. The last track is long, over 20 min. & features a lot of incredible synth playing by Doug.
