The Yeti Band
This was one the last bands that Doug played in before Alien Planetscapes was
born and I had presumed the name was inspired by Amon Duul II but it turns out
it was named after Steven Bosky's 1969 Opera of the same name. Here is some
more details about the Yeti band from Doug's first wife. "It has been a
long time and my memory has faded a little but here is what I remember. The
band had 2 brothers, Kenny Kern who was an awesome guitarist with 10 pedals
and always 1 bad patch cord. His brother Arnie played sax. Frank Paschke played
bass and small percussion. There was a synth player
Putnery VCS-3 named Tom (dont remember the last name) who ran the import section
at Record World in Roosevelt Field which is how wehooked up with them. There
was also a drummer whose name I dont
remember but moved to Providence RI to go to RISD and I remember weall went
up there one weekend to jam. And another bass player. We would go out to Kenny
and Arnies's house and jam every Sunday
afternoon. At that time Doug was playing alto and soprano sax and flute. Then
we got ripped off and his sax and flute were stolen (we were living in Queens
at the time) and he got an alto flute. David
Murray offered to sell him his soprano sax cheap when he heard about the robbery
but by that time Doug was also jamming with 2 guys in Yonkers, Mark Purdy and
I dont remember the name of the other guy but he had a Degan vibraphone, serial
number 52 I think and Doug wanted to play the vibes so we bought that, it just
barely fit in our Toyota Corolla in the cases, if the car had been a 2 door
it would have never fit.
The Yeti Band also played a gig in metro Wash DC with another group whose name
I cant remember, I want to say the Muffins. Doug met them networking and we
went down there, I remember Jeremy, Lee and Ken were there and dont remember
who else. Unfortunately someone from the Yeti had an OD on smack later that
night and was quite sick. And the sont
Yeti had lyrics "have you heard about the Yeti? Tore ten men to threads
of spaghetti"
